Can removal of my thyroid help control my ups and downs which are severe from hashimoto. I also have 6 nodules noted on ultrasound 6 years ago and at times now have trouble swallowing . They cannot regulated with medication. I know the surgery won t take away all the symptoms but can it be managed better
Hello,my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concerns. The treatment of choice for Hashimoto disease is thyroid hormone replacement. The drug of choice is orally administered levothyroxine sodium. Indications for surgery include the following: -dysphagia, voice hoarseness, and stridor, caused by extrinsic obstruction of airflow -Presence of a malignant nodule - As found by cytologic examination via fine-needle aspiration -Presence of a lymphoma diagnosed on fine-needle aspiration -Cosmetic reasons This is a decision that should be taken by your doctor after doing the examination that are needed. Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other question I'll be glad to help, thanks!
